Who do so many people in upstate NY like the Michigan Wolverines?

Im from NY, and i was in upstate NY, and almost every person i saw, every house, every car, was all Wolverine decorated, blue and yellow,lol.....what's up with that? Is upstate full of people from michigan or is that just how it ended up?lol.
