It's not that he doesn't understand it's they do not care about our pain because they are all damn selfish and just want their fun. Tell him in future you will come on to him if you feel like it and when you're not in too much pain during that time. Him saying he feels rejected is his way of getting you to do it whether you feel like it or not.
