How to make nothing into something great?

So I'm going from a school with a number one award winning newspaper, and excellent student reporters, to a school where the students and teachers have hardly any ambition and don't really care about anything. The newspaper at this school isn't all that great either. I know this about the new school because I used to go there a long time ago. Anyways, I want journalism to be my career when I finish school and I don't want the lack of drive of others to hinder my success. I know if I really tried hard I could probably make this newspaper into something as great or even better than my old school's paper. What I'm asking is what are some ways to go about doing this, as far as influencing others to do better and just doing more things for the paper and sharing my knowledge of journalism. I know the students and paper at the new school have potential but how does one person go about brining it out in everybody else.
